After PM Modi, BJP President Amit Shah Calls Nitish Kumar Arrogant
-
PATNA/PURNEA: A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi blasted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for being "arrogant" enough to reject the special package, BJP president Amit Shah also attacked Mr Kumar on similar line, stating that he had no right to dismiss the package.
"Arrogant and over-ambitious Nitish Kumar, who harboured a dream to become PM, does not have any right to reject the special package of Rs 1.25 lakh crore announced for the people of the state," Mr Shah told a BJP workers Sammelan at Gardanibagh stadium.
"Narendra Modi government has promised to give Rs 1.25 lakh crore special package besides Rs 40,000 crore for existing schemes to change the fortunes of Bihar. The amount together is three times of Bihar's annual budget of about Rs 50,000 crore. Lalu-Nitish did not even bother to thank, instead Nitish said that Bihar will stand on its own," he said.
"Nitish Kumar does not have any right to deny special package announced for Bihar as it is meant for the welfare of poor, youths, women and farmers," Mr Shah said while addressing BJP workers of 32 Assembly seats of Patna and neighbouring areas that would go for polls in the third phase on October 28.
Mr Shah, who has been camping in Bihar for past three days and moving around the state to galvanise party workers for the crucial Bihar poll, lambasted Mr Kumar's claim of ushering the state into development in company of RJD and Congress.
"With Lalu Prasad symbolising 'jungle raj' sitting on one shoulder and Congress symbolising corruption on another, Kumar's claim of development is nothing but farce," he said while addressing a workers meeting at Purnea earlier.
He said "jungle raj" was prevailing in the state during RJD's 15-year-rule and a win for Grand Alliance meant return of "jungle raj-2."
Alleging that RJD-Congress rule of past 25 years had made the state most backward, he accused the Bihar Chief Minister of backstabbing the people's mandate of 2010 by severing ties with the BJP.
Seeking to take wind out of AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asauddin Owaisi's sails on alleged neglect of Muslim-dominated Seemanchal area, the BJP chief said the future NDA government would pay special attention to the area.
Mr Shah also highlighted the performance of BJP ruled states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, stating because of their good showing the party had been winning elections regularly in the states.

Sonia Gandhi Attacks PM Modi for 'Low-Level Politics' on Foreign Soil
-
WAZIRGANJ, BIHAR: Congress President Sonia Gandhi today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "lowering" the dignity of his office by criticising his political opponents on foreign soil. He said that it reflected his "narrow mindedness" and "low-level politics".
"No other Prime Minister has ever criticised and sullied the image of his political rivals on foreign soil. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done so, showing his narrow mindedness and low-level politics. When he does not bother about the dignity of Bihar or the nation, will he be concerned about your dignity," Sonia said.
Addressing a election rally in Bihar's Wazirganj, she questioned PM Modi's intention on delivering on the election promises he had made and blamed the "wrong" policies of his government for "breaking the back of the poor".
The Congress president criticised a number of schemes launched by the NDA government like Jan Dhan Yojna and criticised it for "sky rocketing" prices of pulses.
"Will those who have set aside all their previous promises, fulfill the fresh ones they are making now. No. They will not fulfill them at all. For us, making promises is not a poll 'jumla' (phrase)," she said, alluding to BJP chief Amit Shah's remarks on PM Modi's promise on black money.
Delivering her speech in the Magadh region, which is known for production of pulses, Mrs Gandhi sought to project the Modi government as 'anti-poor' which was working only to benefit the rich.
"Pulses have become so expensive that common people cannot buy it. Magadh region is known for pulse production. I want to know whether farmers producing pulses are getting any benefit. No, farmers are getting nothing.
"Modi government is giving subsidy on imported pulses. Wheat is also imported in large quantity. Did farmers benefit from it? The benefit has gone to the middlemen or their own people," she said.
Attacking the Prime Minister for his pitch on Jan Dhan Yojna, she asked whether the account holders got Rs 5,000, as promised by PM Modi, when they opened their bank accounts under the scheme.
"Did you get the money? How many of you have got it? Nobody has got it. What happened to his promise?" she asked the crowd.
Accusing the NDA government of not passing on the benefits of falling oil prices to the common man, she said the UPA dispensation kept the oil prices low despite the rise in international prices of crude oil.
"You are battling all sorts of problems in daily life for which Modi government is directly responsible. What actions he took to redress your grievances. Why no attention was paid to the problems of our weaver brothers," she said.
She also accused the government of slashing budgetary allocations for a number of social security schemes.
The voting for the state elections will begin this month and will be held in five phases.

Rahul Gandhi Visits Dadri Village, Flays Politics of Hate
-
NEW DELHI: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today visited the family of the man, who was lynched for allegedly eating beef, at a village in Greater Noida and denounced the politics of hate.
"Hatred between our people weakens India. We have to stand together and fight those who spread it"
"It is very sad to see the trust and harmony built over decades, destroyed by the politics of hate", Mr Gandhi said in a series of tweets.
"Was touched by the desire of people in Bisada to maintain harmony. This spirit will help the country go through tough times", he said in another tweet.
The tweets followed his meeting the family of Mohd Iqlakh at Bishada village and offering his deepest condolences.
Congress has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his "silence" and condemn the lynching incident.
Iqlakh was beaten to death and his 22-year-old son Danish critically injured by a 200-strong mob which had barged into their house on Monday night following rumours that the family had consumed beef. Cow slaughter is banned in Uttar Pradesh.

Special Status Will Not Solve Problems of Andhra Pradesh: Venkaiah Naidu
-
NELLORE: Amid demands from opposition YSR Congress and other parties for special status for Andhra Pradesh as promised by the earlier UPA government, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said the status alone wouldn't guarantee economic development.
"All problems will not be solved with the special status. Eleven states in the country have been given the special status and they now say they are poor. Special status is one of the issues for Andhra Pradesh. But everything won't be solved with that. Along with that, the Centre intends to help the state more than that," he said at an event in his native Nellore district.
The NDA government headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making efforts to speed up growth and create wealth in the country, he said.
The then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had promised special status to Seemandhra (the new Andhra Pradesh) during a discussion on AP Reorganisation Act in the Parliament.
The opposition parties in the state are now trying to corner the ruling TDP-BJP combine for Centre's failure to grant the special status.
Congress conducted a campaign where police complaints were filed against the Union Ministers from Andhra Pradesh including Venkaiah Naidu and also against the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for "deceiving" people, and mass SMSes were sent to these leaders.
YSR Congress leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy has announced an indefinite fast on the issue from October 7.
The Centre has directed the NITI Ayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya to prepare a roadmap on the benefits to be given to Andhra Pradesh.

Lalu Prasad's Son Tejaswi Files Nomination for Bihar Elections
-
PATNA: RJD chief Lalu Prasad's younger son Tejaswi Yadav filed his nomination papers for the upcoming Bihar state assembly polls from Raghopur constituency today.
Cricketer-turned-politician Tejaswi, 26, filed the papers, accompanied by his father Lalu Prasad, elder brother Tej Pratap and other Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders in Hajipur, the district headquarters of Vaishali, about 30 km from Patna.
Mr Tejaswi Yadav exuded confidence before media of winning the seat, saying: "People have been supporting me and will vote for me in the polls. It is my traditional family seat," he said.
Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad's elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, 27, is in the fray from Mahua constituency.
Both Mahua and Raghopur are adjacent constituencies in Vaishali district, not far from Patna. Vaishali is considered a RJD stronghold.
Mr Prasad and his wife Rabri Devi, a former Chief Minister, won several elections between 1995 to 2010 from Raghopur.
Mr Tejaswi Yadav, a popular face of the party, recently attended a rally with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in West Champaran district.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Satish Kumar Yadav, who joined the party hours before being declared its candidate, from Raghopur constituency. He was denied a ticket by the Janata Dal-United party, when the Raghopur seat was given to the RJD as per the seat-sharing formula.
In 2010, Mr Satish Yadav had defeated RJD's Ms Rabri Devi by 63,000 votes.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Mr Lalu Prasad's elder daughter Misa Bharti, a doctor by profession, had unsuccessfully contested from Patliputra parliamentary seat in Patna.
The polls for the 243-member Bihar assembly will take place in five phases between October 12 and November 5, with the counting slated for November 8.

Gold price drops for fifth day on global cues, sluggish demand
-
Continuing its losing streak for the fifth straight day, gold tumbled by Rs 250 to over six-week low of Rs 26,150 at the bullion market on Thursday, largely due to weak global trend amid subdued demand from jewellers.
Besides, in the global market, the precious metal was trading at two-week lows.
Silver also shed Rs 150 to Rs 34,600 per kg on reduced offtake by industrial units and coin makers.
Traders said gold fell amid a weak global trend ahead of the US payrolls report later on Thursday, which could bolster the case for an interest rate hike after private jobs data showed an increase in hiring, diminishing appeal of the precious metal.
Globally, gold fell 0.2 per cent to $1,111.83 an ounce in Singapore.
Besides, slackened demand from jewellers and retailers at domestic spot market in view of ongoing inauspicious fortnight of 'Sharadhas', dampened the sentiments, they said.
In the national capital, gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity dropped by Rs 250 each to Rs 26,150 and Rs 26,000 per ten grams, a level last seen on August 13. The precious metal had lost Rs 850 in last two days.
Sovereign also shed Rs 100 at Rs 22,100 per piece of eight grams in limited deals.
Similarly, silver ready also fell by Rs 150 to Rs 34,600 per kg and weekly-based delivery traded lower by Rs 170 to Rs 34,645 per kg.
Silver coins too came under pressure and lost Rs 1,000 at Rs 49,000 for buying and Rs 50,000 for selling of 100 pieces.

Beverage delivery app ThirstKart plans to raise Rs 65 crore for expansion
-
Beverage delivery app ThirstKart is planning to raise Rs 65 crore in the next one year besides expanding services to all metro cities across the country.
The company, founded in June 2015, has teamed up with leading beverage providers like Starbucks and Cafe Coffee Day at a store-manager level.
"Currently, we have tied up with big brands at store-manager level, but now its time for us to go big. We are looking forward to an exponential growth within the next one year with presence in almost every metro in the country," ThirstKart founder told PTI.
The company is currently present in Mumbai and will foray within a month into Gurgaon, where it is looking for providing beverages to corporate clients, Pabreja said.
"The demand in this segment is huge and being the only player in this beverage delivery market is attracting investors," Pabreja said, adding that the start-up is planning to raise Rs 65 crore in the next one year.
He further said that the business is growing at a pace of 30 per cent per month, and the company is already in talks with a number of big venture capital funds which has helped start-ups grow to multi-billion dollar companies and "I think something will be finalised soon."
At present, ThirstKart serves around hundred drinks and Pabreja said that the company will be able take the number to around 700 within the next 8-9 months.
"We are introducing a special feature on our app which will enable a customer to pre-order a drink for a desired time. Suppose I want a strawberry shake for breakfast at 8 am, I will be able to order it a night before and it will be on my table the next morning at 8," he said.

Infosys develops solutions for Internet of Things
-
Infosys on Wednesday said it has developed solutions for Internet of Things (IoT) to benefit from huge data generated by connected devices in the industrial enterprise.
"We have collaborated with GE (General Electric) a digital industrial behemoth, to develop the solutions, which help industrial enterprises improve efficiency and build intelligent linkages between design, production and testing," the IT bellwether said in a statement from San Francisco, US.
The Industrial Internet Consortium, an international body of industries, governments and academics focused on developing best practices for the Industrial Internet, recently approved two Infosys-led test beds.
"The asset efficiency test bed enables monitoring, analysis and optimisation of infrastructure assets. Its first use focuses on predictive maintenance of an industrial asset like an aircraft landing gear," the statement said.
Likewise, the industrial digital thread test bed builds more intelligent linkages for manufacturing from design, production and field service.
"By capturing, analysing and relaying real-time sensory and data, the industrial digital thread will generate insights to help field engineers and service teams identify the cause of component failure and provide faster corrections to flaws in design engineering and manufacturing operations," the statement said.
According to GE's Chief Digital Officer Bill Ruh, the consortium was set up to help enterprises break down technology barriers and support integration of the physical and digital worlds.
"We see brilliant manufacturing as the next wave of industrial internet innovation, following asset performance management. We are partnering with Infosys to drive efficiency and productivity for the industry," Ruh said.
The consortium was set up to help organisations break barriers of technology silos and support better integration of the physical and digital worlds.
Infosys Chief Executive Officer Vishal Sikka said: "The IoT is about dissolving complexity and intermediaries that create distance between the point of manufacturing and consumption, between understanding and preventing points of failure in the manufacturing process, in machines or in critical processes."

Smartphone apps becoming New-Age nanny for Indian kids
-
With technology fast becoming an integral part of people's lives, parenting has also undergone a sea change in the last few years. In nuclear families, parenting apps are helping couples raise their offspring in a much more efficient and secure way.
Today there are a number of smartphone apps to make parents' life simple and more organised as far as kids are concerned.
For example, the "mycity4kids Family Organiser" app helps parents search for right activities and content related to their kids.
Launched in October 2010, "mycity4kids" has become an indispensable mobile platform for several mothers.
"The idea for 'mycity4kids' struck me when my kids were six and two, respectively. Like other parents, we also used to dwell on how difficult it is to find appropriate things to do or places to go to where our kids could acquire new skills or just have a fun time," said Vishal Gupta, the co-founder of the app.
The USP lies in the app's unique mother-focused content around which it has built the largest community of parents.
"We would like to become the indispensable mobile platform for today's multi-tasking mother by giving her access in one place to everything she needs and can learn from the shared experiences of other parents," explained 40-year-old Gupta who lives in Gurgaon.
The app offers highly utilitarian features like a "Family Calendar", to-do lists, upcoming events, kids resources and parenting blogs that parents can access on the go to share their parenting responsibilities actively with others.
"Being the first-movers in this category, we had to face many challenges in its initial stages and to create a unique business model," Gupta added.
This app is available for both Apple and Android users for downloading.
The app currently caters to parents in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.
Soon, it will expand its reach in other cities. In the last one year, "mycity4kids" website has received 20 million page views by nearly 3.5 million parents.
There are some other apps too for parents.
For instance, "Family Tracker" helps parents track the whereabouts of their children and keep a tab on their activities inside home or while they play in the neighbourhood park.
Considering child safety as a main concern, another app "Northstar" provides a platform for parents and schools which can be used to track the location of school buses.
This mobile app is used to keep track of the children's location as they commute between school and home.
There are also apps like "Dr. Panda's Hospital" that teach kids how to nurture pets at a young age and help them become sensitive to others.
Another app named "10 Monkeys Multiplication" helps children master tables from two to 10 in a fun and engaging way.

US job growth cools in last two months, raising doubts on economy
-
US employers slammed the brakes on hiring over the last two months and wages fell in September, raising new doubts the economy is strong enough for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by the end of this year.
Payrolls outside of farming rose by 142,000 last month and August figures were revised sharply lower to show only 136,000 jobs added in August, the Labor Department said on Friday.
That marked the smallest two-month gain in employment in over a year and could fuel fears that the China-led global economic slowdown is sapping America's strength.
US factories are feeling the global chill and shed 9,000 jobs in September after losing 18,000 in August, according to the Labor Department's survey of employers.
The recent pace of job growth should have been enough to push the unemployment rate lower because only around 100,000 new jobs are needed a month to keep up with population growth.
But the jobless rate held steady at 5.1 per cent. The unemployment rate is derived from a separate survey of households that showed 350,000 workers dropping out of the labor force last month, as well as a lower level of employment.
Average hourly wages fell by a cent to $25.09 during the month and were up only 2.2 percent from the same month in 2014, pointing to marginal inflationary pressures.

- Countries have outlines their post 2020 plans to cut down their emission which will be reported and discussed during 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference that will going to be held in Paris, France from November 30 to December It will be the 21st annual session of the Conference.
OUTLAY
The estimated outlay required by India to achieve climate change goals is at least $2.5 trillion.
STEPS TO BE TAKEN BY INDIA
- To reduce 33-35% emission by 2030 as compared to the earlier targets of 20% reduction in 2020 from 2005 taken in UN summit in 2009.
- To increase the share of non-fossil fuels like solar, wind, hydro, biomass and nuclear by 40% in terms of power generation.

- To develop 25 Solar Parks, to supply 100,000 solar pumps to farmers and the conversion of country’s 55,000 petrol pumps into solar.
- To keep per capita emission of per person lower than the average of the developed countries.
- Introduction of new technologies in thermal power generation
- To reduce emissions in transportation sector.
After China and US, India is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases with contribution of about7% of greenhouse emissions globally.
WHAT ARE INDCs?
Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) are submitted to UNFCC before the summit that combines the United Nations climate agreements which have been publically declare by each member country with an ambition to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and to keep global temperature below a ceiling of 2 degrees Celsius.
